Bible College at North Gate

North Gate Christian Church is proud to offer a Local Church Certificate (LCC) Certificate IV in Ministry through AlphaCrucis Christian College. Applicants can complete this either full-time as part of the one-year North Gate Internship, or part-time over two or more years. If studying full-time, the course is Austudy-approved and students can check their own eligibility for Austudy with Centrelink www.centrelink.gov.au

AlphaCrucis is the national ministry training college of the Australian Christian Churches. For over 60 years, AlphaCrucis (formerly Southern Cross College) has played a major role in the academic and spiritual development of thousands of leaders – men and women who are making a significant impact for the cause of Christ in Australia, New Zealand and all over the world. For further details about Alpha Crucis and the courses available for study, please refer to their website www.alphacrucis.edu.au

The LCC is the implementation of a Certificate IV in Ministry in the local church. This allows students to study and train in their local church, which not only prepares students for ministry, but also provides an opportunity to build the local church. The LCC is a VETAB accredited course and is a nationally recognised qualification. Currently this certificate is the minimum level of study that the Australian Christian Churches expects applicants for minister’s credentials to have obtained.

The LCC is presented as Distance Education modules with CD-ROM or DVD lectures taught by Pastors and Theologians who are on staff at Southern Cross College. Students independently complete one lecture per week (15 in total per subject per semester) plus a reading from either provided material or a prescribed textbook. After each lecture and reading, students complete a short on-line test, attend a weekly tutorial with other North Gate students, and by the end of each semester, complete written assessments and practical assignments. The LCC consists of eight modules:

1 Christian Discipleship
2 Christian Worldview
3 Introduction to the Old Testament
4 Introduction to the New Testament
5 Evangelism
6 Christian Leadership
7 Field Training 1: Introduction to Church Ministries
8 Field Training 2: Church Leadership

The course is facilitated at North Gate Christian Church by Kelly Nicholson, who completed a North Gate Internship and an LCC through Southern Cross College. Her role as facilitator is to encourage and assist students with course material and to engage students in weekly tutorials to discuss what they have learnt from the lectures and readings. In this way, the students (and the facilitator!) are able to gain a greater revelation and understanding of the material through their discussions.
